Shockcollar-4less.com's shock collar guide

Before making a purchase there are a few technologies that the industry leaders have in each collar that you must know before selecting the correct model/type for your pet.

Continuous stimulation vs. momentary stimulations

There are two types of stimulation that every modern shock collar is able to administrate. First, continuous stimulation; this method of stimulation delivers an electric shock for as long as the trainer presses the button on the remote control. For example, if the trainer holds the button down for seven seconds, the pet will receive seven seconds of shock. This type of stimulation is good for a dog that is running wild and quick burst of shock is not stopping your pet.

The second type of stimulation is momentary stimulation. Momentary stimulation is quick/short burst of shock to correct his behavior. Unlike continuous stimulation it does not matter how long you hold the button on the remote control down the pet will only receive one short burst of correction. This type of stimulation works well when a dog makes a minor mistake like barking when he is not allowed to.

Range of the collar

Different models have different ranges. For example, a hunting dog might need a range of a mile but a basic house dog will only need a range of couple hundred yards. Another factor to take into considerations will be the terrain in which you plan on training your dog. If you live in a woody area then you might consider buying a model that will have more range than someone who lives in a flat treeless area.

Intensity Levels

All modern shock collars have the ability to adjust the intensity levels of shock that is administrated. This is a great feature that allows the trainer to decide on how much stimulation he/she wants to give depending on the infraction caused by the pet.

Transmitter/Remote Control Design

Manufacturers of shock collars design transmitter from all shapes and sizes. Some are light, and some are a heavier. It all comes down to personal preference. For training to be effective the transmitter has to not only be easy to use but also comfortable for the trainer to handle. Another feature to consider is to know if your transmitter is water resistant or not depending on which model you decide to choose.

Final Note

Used correctly, shock collars can save you time and effort when training your pet. With the proper knowledge and training techniques you will never have to chase your dog down the street to give proper punishment. Make sure you browse our wide selection of shock collars that we have to offer.
